Serving the Block Kitchen

IMPACT

Food insecurity isn’t occasional. Our response isn’t either.

Motion Meets Purpose

For six years, FCCD has shown up for the community—starting with weekly Serving Saturday meals and evolving into Serving the Block Kitchen, a dedicated space preparing and serving meals six days a week.

This consistency allows us to:

  • Provide reliable access to food

  • Improve meal quality through on-site preparation

  • Build trust through predictable presence

  • Serve  the community, more often

150,000+ nourishing meals served to the community since 2019

Serving our community 260 days each year since 2025

Having meals available throughout the week makes a real difference. It gives me peace of mind knowing there’s somewhere I can go.

This is the place we rely on to receive a good meal each week. They don’t just hand me the food and rush me away. They talk to me, they care, and they make you feel human.

Volunteering at Serving the Block reminds me why community matters. It’s not just about preparing food—it’s about showing up for people and being part of something bigger.

What it Means to Serve the Block

Consistent impact that makes a real difference in our community

$600,000+ student scholarships awarded since 2023

10,000+ haircuts restoring dignity since 2003

Distributed over 3,000 coats providing warmth since 2022

500+ pairs of new sneakers given to those in need

Beyond the Plate

Our impact extends beyond meals. While Serving the Block Kitchen addresses immediate food needs, our work also reflects a broader commitment to dignity, opportunity, and long-term community well-being.

Through targeted initiatives and partnerships, we have:

  • Invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships for aspiring HBCU STEM students

  • Distributed coats and shoes to support comfort, safety, and confidence

  • Provided thousands of haircuts, helping neighbors show up for work, school, and daily life with dignity

These efforts reflect a simple belief: meeting basic needs opens the door to greater stability, opportunity, and empowerment.
